Deepika’s Biography
Deepika Padukone is an Indian model and a budding film actress. She is the eldest daughter of former world badminton Champion Prakash Padukone and Ujjala Padukone a travel agent. Deepika Padukone was born on January 05, 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark, at the age of 11 months she moved to Mangalore, Karnataka when her family returned to India. She has a sister Anisha Padukone.
Deepika started her schooling with Sophia High School, Bangalore and completed her Pre University course in Mount Carmel College, Vasanth Nagar, Bangalore Karnataka. Deepika played badminton during her school days and reached to the State level, she did not take her game to the national level as she had set her sights on the glamorous world of showbiz. She has undergone formal training in Baratnatyam for several years. Deepika used to model as a kid when she was in the school. But it was just as a hobby. When Deepika was in high school and for studies she had to sacrifice badminton, she realized that modeling is what she wanted to take up professionally. So when she finished her high school, Deepika decided to take up modeling as her profession. She never faced any opposition from her father Prakash Padukone and mother Ujjala Padukone.
Deepika received mantra of discipline, determination and dedication from her father which helped her to develop a dedicated and sincere attitude towards her work and overall career.
Deepika made her debut on the ramp in 2003 at The Vogue Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore, and immediately shot to prominence in the showbiz industry. Deepika instantly started getting modeling offers from prestigious institutions and brand ambassadorship of the Jewels of India. Deepika Padukone became a model endorsing leading brands like Liril soap, Limca, Close-Up toothpaste, Kingfisher and several other products, which include international cosmetics giant Maybelline. While doing the Maybelline campaign Deepika hit the International Scene as Maybelline’s international face.
This pretty and graceful model won many awards for her modeling style. At the fifth annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards, for Indian models and designers, she was awarded as the Model of the Year. Her sensuous photographs appearing on the 2006 Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar has virtually proved that Deepika is indeed a supermodel in her own right. She also won two trophies at the Idea Zee F Awards in 2006 – Female Model of the year (Commercial Assignments) and Fresh Face of the year.
After getting the fame and glory in the field of modeling Deepika trained her sight at the Film Industry. She started off her career in film with appearance in a pop music video titled Aap Ka Suroor by Himesh Reshamia for a number Naam Hai Tera in the year 2006. After that she made her debut in a Kannada film Aishwarya opposite Kannada Superstar Upendra, the film was a smash hit on the box office and Deepika received enthusiastic reviews for her performance in the film. Now Deepika trained her sight towards the Bollywood and made her debut in Farah Khan- directed Om Shanti Om, opposite Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika says “I’ve grown up watching Shah Rukh Khan and never really imagined that one day I will get to play the lead opposite him,” but it is real now the film is scheduled to be released in the theaters on 9th October 2007 and eagerly awaited by the masses. She has already received offers for many more films from the directors like Maniratnam and Nikhil Advani and Rakesh Omprakash Mehra. Many pundits of the film industry predict that she will be the next big thing in Bollywood. Let us pray for her success for her forthcoming releases.
